4.7 Absolutely spot on depiction of life as a 20 something in London, so much so it's almost freaky. Beautiful artwork. Has motivated me to see if I can turn my journal into some kind of comic, starting as I type!

If you want to know what is happening in London right now in terms of housing and trying to make it then this book is a great one to read. The illustrations are quite beautiful and colourful but its the story that grips you and draws you in. Brilliant!

Definitely felt like it hit very close to home, with the whole "20something who feels like their life is going nowhere and is bad", and while I felt like I could relate to bits, there were definitely parts that I just didn't click with at all, and frankly none of the characters were likeable in my opinion (Grace gets better towards the end of the book thankfully). Overall it was pretty good, but nothing super life-changing.

Just picked this graphic novel up by chance at the library today and I couldn't put it down. This is the story of Grace, a 20-something who lives in a shared flat in Hackney with her mates. The landlord is a pervert, the place is riddled with mould and dripping ceilings. But isn't East London THE place to be? With its £16 gravlax smorgås (aka salmon toastie) and artists' markets. That is until their landlord decides to put the flat on the market.

Grace watches as her mates find their own solutions to their housing crisis, while she struggles with finding anything in London that is bigger than a broom closet and doesn't cost a kidney. Despite her dire financial situation, Grace still can't peel herself off Netflix, multiple rounds of drinks at the pub, nor resist £99 trips to Spain.

I found this book extremely relatable. It starts out comically but it tactfully discusses issues of London's housing insecurity, street harassment faced by women and POC, and awful wages for young people.

I couldn't find this artist's social media handle, or if she has published anything else since Saving Grace in 2016. I would love to read more of her work!

A story of our times, this is a super graphic novel about a young woman struggling to survive in the ultra expensive city that is London. I can totally relate to the story as my adult children are going through the same challenges.
