This was my first Nicholas Sparks book and unfortunately I think also my last. I usually love romance novels but between the “she’s so beautiful and doesn’t know it” and saying I love you after hanging out twice I just didn’t enjoy it. And at the end when Jo
was revealed to be a figment of her imagination? Or a supernatural gift from Carly or something along those lines?
that was weird and came out of nowhere, it didn’t fit with the rest of the book. It was interesting to see the perspective of  an abuser, as that is not something that you see often, but it just wasn’t for me. Also kind of a nit picky complaint but I thought the dialogue of the children was just not right for what their supposed ages were and it irritated me each time they said something.

This is my second Nicholas Sparks book as an adult and I love his writing. I just love the stories that he comes up with and while not all of them are happy endings they depict very real and true stories that everyday people deal with in secret.

This book was so good! It was heartbreaking and tense at the end. For anyone that has gone through domestic violence, the main character, Katie, shows how hard it is to get out of those situations, and sometimes the ending isn't what we hope for. She is an amazing character and very strong to get out of her situation.
I'm glad she made it out in the end, and the ending was truly touching with the letter from Alex's ex-wife, Jo.

Well now I feel bad for hating on Jo...

This was the first romance book I've read and it was a great introduction into the genre. I don't even know how to express how I feel about this book. It's so heartbreaking, hearing about Katie's past and secrets. And about her bravery and courage. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
