An underrated book that deserves more love and recognition!

Teleportation, just like time travel, is one of those subjects that is extremely hard to write about. It's too easy to get carried away and write something awful.
Thankfully, Steven Gould did his job well and produced an amazing story, a solid 5-star novel, that is going straight up to my favorites chart.

I'm eager to keep reading the Jumper books!

Thanks to YouTube and the Impulse series for bringing my attention to these books. I haven't looked too much into it, but it seems to me that the YouTube series, though inspired by these books, doesn't have much in common with them other than teleportation.
That's a good thing. I came to this book expecting something similar to the series but got something much better I didn't even know I wanted.

WARNING: The Youtube series Impulse is definitely worth checking out! The 2008 movie Jumper, though, is total garbage that takes the characters from this book and tells a whole new story, much worse than the original. Heed my warning and do not watch the movie!

Please, please ignore the movie - the only similarity is the teleporter sharing the same name.

This book is pure delightful wish fulfillment. There's no magic or unexplored grandiose ideas here - it's just a very straightforward and realistic exploration of what would happen if someone discovered they could teleport. I think that's what appeals to me the most; it's very easy to put yourself in the protagonist's shoes, and you more often than not agree with his decisions and actions.

Sure, some of the drama and circumstances are forced, and on a whole this isn't really a complete story with a great ending, but it's one of the most enjoyable scifi reads I've had.

I am conflicted about this book. It is an interesting take on the modern superhero (and much better than the movie it inspired), but the main character is one of the most irritating characters I have encountered. It must be said that the character is meant to be irritating. He is an 18-year-old boy who suddenly finds himself gifted with the power of teleportation. He is wildly immature and frustrating, but then again, so was I at that time, and I did not possess such stressful abilities.

I read this book so that I could then go to the movie but I never ended up seeing the movie. My understanding is that the movie is quite different than the book as usual. This book was like candy to me, and easy read but not very filling. Just something light, enjoyable once but probably not again.

Better than the movie. Not as exciting as the movie, but at least this tries to explain the difficulties of the jumper lifestyle a little better.
