I love that this book is romantic and swoony as the b plot, that the familial love and hilarity takes center stage. It gives so much more breathing room to the romance, and really highlights how life changing it can be to grow up and realize that yes, your family can drive you mad, but oftentimes it's out of love and hope. If I'm being honest, the aunties stole the show for me, even though they're technically secondary characters.
Something about Sutanto's writing made their personalities so vivid, by the end of the book I feel like I could pop into any of their homes for a quick cup of tea or bite to eat.
This is my favorite book I've read so far this year, and easily leapt to my top ten I've read ever. *insert that lady Gaga gif where she's listing accolades*

maybe one of the only things i disliked was... nathan.
Spoiler
yeah, he is adorable and he's meddy's soulmate and future husbandof course one can say that the aunties themselves don't have that much of a development neither
Spoiler
yet, from my point of view, i think that the whole situation of the corpse and meddy's declaration by the end, helps them to explicitly appreciate each otheras i said, it seems to me that this is not a book one should overanalyze so i did not stop to ponder on her character. but i have to say that i relate to her a little. i am also a daughter of immigrants who has never left the nest, so i know i am going to have a hard time doing so when the time comes. that's why i can truly emphathize with her guilt of leaving her family behind.
this is, to put it briefly, this is a comedic story about the importance of family. i think anyone who wants to read it can truly have a good time doing so, as long as they're aware of that.
