I got this book because of the title and I ended up loving it and buying the next 2. I love gray and Liana. they are so cute!

updated review: I still agree with what I previously said I just have more to say. This was really interesting because you are ranked on your thoughts so if you think bad things abt the leader(forgot his name) you get a low score maybe even low enough that that kills you just because you disagree with someone. I know that I couldn't live in a world like this and I'm glad I don't. I think this book really focus on how not everyone has to agree with each other we all have our own opinions and we should respect that.

I have a LOT to say about this book, but am pressed for time right now, so until I can give this review justice, here are some thoughts:

Overall the book is pretty solid. It's enjoyable enough to read, even with some pacing issues and some characters and relationships falling very flat to me. I like the concept and found myself really loving the descriptions of the Tower and the people within. A lot of the writing felt immature, but it's YA so I don't think this is a legitimate gripe. I really loved the book-- thought some of the things the characters got away with were definitely far-fetched, especially for the strictness of the Tower in which they were living, but I mean... It was fun to read. Moments that were supposed to be twists and or hurt/shock you fell extremely flat each time; the shocking moments were revealed in world-building and dialog, to be honest. The ending-- not even just the very ending, but about the last seven chapters, just felt... Bad. Not Bad in a Good, dystopian way-- but poorly written. I did not really enjoy them, and the twist at the very end did not leave me wanting to read more. It honestly made me just want to read a summary of the next books. The ending was very abrupt and built for a cliffhanger, which is just... A crutch that authors need to stop relying on to sell their series.

Anyways, I'm a sucker for dystopia, especially super weird far-fetched ones, so... Whatever.

I was expecting something terrible after reading A Shade of Vampire and hating it. But this book is solid.

Really excellent sci-fi fiction. The only reason I didn’t give it five starts was that I didn’t think the descriptions of sexual feelings were necessary to the book. The action and plot were intense; the sections that focused on the physical were “extra” and didn’t add anything to the book.

whilst reasonably similar to others in its genre, it is well written and engaging

This book started off slow but after a couple of chapters got so much better. Liana is in a world where you are scored from 1-10, 10 being the best and 1 being the absolute worst. Liana is a 4, and has trouble climbing up the ladder but like all teenagers, rebellion comes so easily. When she becomes a 3, which is devastating for her, she has to figure a way to keep it a secret and to make her score get higher and quick. If I was in the world I doubt I'd live for very long, because I love to think and question about everything and in a society that frowns upon that would be really hard.
