Overall, I did not dislike this book, but it was definitely hard to get through at times. Parts of the plot were very interesting. It was interesting to see how much Dorian changed over the course of the book (he started off very nice and ended up being so obsessed with staying young and he ended up being a social outcast). And it was interesting to read about how Dorian kept the painting so locked up (it was a bit intriguing because I didn’t know if someone was going to discover the painting). Also, the characters were very distinct. Basil was so in love with Dorian that he would’ve done ANYTHING for him, even after Dorian had pushed Basil away. Lord Henry was so weird and had strange, backwards thoughts about life. And Basil changed a lot during the book (he tried to gain redemption at the end). Despite some parts of the book being interesting and the writing being GREAT, it was very slow. There wasn’t necessarily a lot of plot, and the writing dragged on sometimes. Some dialogue took up an entire page. And some WHOLE CHAPTERS were dedicated to describing random things (one whole chapter mentioned everything Dorian collected and the characters of a book he read). Because so many parts were slow and so consuming, I found the book very much difficult to get through. Despite this, it was all well written and the characters were memorable. It would be interesting to later read a censored version and see how different the two are.

It is wonderfully written tale. Thrilling and detailing a man dismantling all morality and virtue in his life, the plot cleverly carves an enthralling path along this journey.
