I finally purchased the box set of The Lunar Chronicles and was surprised to see that the new editions include the companion novellas! Glitches is the companion novella to Cinder and is included in the Bonus Content of Cinder, so naturally I ignored my more pressing responsibilities and dove into this short story.

Even though it's very short, it's filled with emotion and actually answered a lot of my "wonderings" that weren't addressed in Cinder. Glitches is a bonus chapter that fans should definitely read, as it carries a sneak peek into Cinder's life when she first moved in with her step-family.

I don't understand why this wasn't just an opening chapter or included as a flashback somewhere in Cinder. But regardless, it was nice to have a glimpse into a younger Cinder's arrival at her new home. You also learn Adri was always a terrible person, apparently. I want a story where you just follow Peony, Iko and Cinder around on fun adventures. That would be cute.

Interesting addition but nothing we didn't already know.

Before I'd read the story, I found the name weird. Now I find that it fits in perfectly...Glitches was sweetly sad.

3.5 stars but I love this world and the characters so much so its close to 4 stars

“I have a glitch, too. Sometimes I forget that I’m not human. I don’t think that happens to most androids.”

“Right. A glitch.” She feigned a nonchalant smile, hoping the android couldn’t detect the grimace that came with it. “Maybe that’s all it is.”

I know I was supposed to read this before cinder but oh well, I still appreciated how this gave me a look into how cinder felt when she first came to her adopted family, and although I wish we had seen more of the father, we still get some good insight into the dynamics of the characters before he died which I found interesting to see.
