I really wanted to read The Enchanted April in April but I ended up missing the timing by a few little days. Still I made it to the 100th anniversary of the first edition.

This book is such an enchantment ! Nothing much really happened but still couldn’t get enough of it. It could have been 500 pages longer and I would still have been delighted to read it. It’s very atmospheric. I was as much transported by the magic of San Salvadore as our four ladies. The description of the landscape are so vivid that, without leaving my garden, I felt transported to sunny April Italy. I could even smell the flowers.

The Enchanted April is pure happiness and pure happiness is the Enchanted April. I definitely see myself re-reading it every April.

The first 3/4 were enchanting, a great build up of characters and internal dialogue from an omniscient narrator.

The ending was a bit of a letdown, with the intrusion of all the husbands and the quick summarization of couples and characters.

The description of the house and nature were absolutely stunning.

Beautiful prose and characterisation.
I wish it was more feminist and they decide to rid men all together, but given the era it was set/written, the story makes sense.
