I loved everything about this book. The chemistry. The politics. The international relations. The romance. All of it. I want to reread it whenever I'm feeling sad (& I want it to actually happen).

This book had me squealing and kicking my feet about 90% of the way through. By the end, it had about overstayed its welcome and made you look a little too closely at it. Casey McQuiston’s books are EXCELLENT escapism romances when they are moving quickly and you don’t look too hard. The minute you do, though, it really starts to fall apart and I got some of the opposite emotions I’m looking for in a romcom (namely: sadness or ickiness or feeling like characters aren’t being treated as people).
The last 10% when I started to feel that way does not negate the first 90, however, which is so excellent.
Favorite Quotes
But his chest feels warmed from the inside with liquor and something heady his brain keeps stumbling over, trying to name.
None of it is satisfying—it never has been, not really, but it never mattered as much as it does now that there’s the sharp counterpoint of Henry, who knows him. Henry who’s seen him in glasses and tolerates him at his most annoying and still kissed him like he wanted him, singularly, not the idea of him.
He’s not even into British accents. He’s into Henry’s British accent.
It is, unfortunately, also sexy.
If Alex’s head is a storm, Henry is the place lightning hits ground. He wants it to be true.
I thought, if someone like that ever loved me, it would set me on fire.
You love so much bigger than yourself, bigger than everything. I can’t believe how lucky I am to even witness it—to be the one who gets to have it, and so much of it, is beyond luck and feels like fate.
I miss you I miss you I miss you I love you.
That’s the choice. I love him, with all that, because of all that. On purpose. I love him on purpose.

If anyone ever asks me again why I read gay novels as a lesbian, I will show them this book. This is literally the reason.
I read this gay dead tree in one evening. And I do not regret anything.

A book that provides the enemies to friends to lovers trope, politics, references to historical love letters, good romance and a distraction from the fact that the world is pretty shit? Makes for a pretty great read to be honest.

Fuck, I wish this is how history had gone. I wish this was the universe we lived in.
But since we're in the darkest timeline, I will have to content myself with this gorgeous, trope-tastic, immensely satisfying novel, positing a better path for the United States and a better love story than I've read in ages.

Okay this was way cuter than I was expecting. For some reason, idk if it was twitter or what, but I was expecting cringe but got an incredibly sweet and emotional romance. A great 50th book milestone to my reading challenge
