Original Read Date: 09/12/24 - 09/14/24
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐. 5
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Tropes: alpha male, broody MC, damsel in distress, dark (plot), found family, morally grey, protector, rescue, stalker (not MC)
POV:  first person, dual pov

Plot: interesting
Ending: ok

Synopsis: Aven is being stalked, but the police won't take her seriously so she reachs out to a fixer to solve her problem. The issue is they don't do stalkers.

My opinion:

Pros: the overall idea of this book is good. Male Olivia Pope with some great side characters and steam. Sign me up. Aven, while initially a loner seems to really embrace the community of people around her and forge unlikely friendship. Quin struggled with his feelings how Aven. Not so much denying them but not realizing there were until it felt like it couldn't happen.

Cons:  this book was good, but not great. It felt like two different stories happening at the same time instead of one. I get what happened to Aven was traumatic and would have likely not been something to jump into a relationship day one, but the fact that everything played out with that storyline better the real advancement of their relationship felt weird to me. Especially since they were both drawn to each other from the beginning. It had a lot of potential and I wish I liked the book that I did. I might try the other books just to see if this same trend continues.

This book has sat on my TBR pile for far too long. I don't know why it took so long to read it.
Aven has a stalker, and this person is getting progressively worse and he has become bold and daring. She reaches out to "The Fixer" but is told Quin probably will not take on her case.
Aven tries to prepare for the inevitable, for when the stalked breaches her privacy and enters her house, but chaos ensues. Quin takes on her case, because he has to now, and tries to fix the situation.
Great story, and I loved these characters so much 🧡

Good lord. Another series with characters I already am in love with. Every. One. Of. Them.

I have read nothing but this author for days and yet, I cannot get enough.

I loved the premise if this story. The characters were too notch. The author does a great job in creating the main and secondary characters in a way that makes them all integral to the story. I think that's how she makes every person the reader encounters important. They become your friend and in same cases they are better than your family.

Oh man this was bad. The main characters had zero chemistry, what I assumed was going to be the main plot point was over within the first 30% of the book and the rest was utterly pointless filler. Especially in the second half, I found I was skim reading a lot. Even the epilogue, I just did not care about the main characters at all.

Very annoyingly I liked the side characters so I am curious to read a few of the other books that focus on them and I can only hope are better than this! I definitely want to read Gunner’s book!

For a mastermind mob boss, Quin was a complete wet blanket and not in a “he’s so sweet and soft way” just in a creepy way.

And if I hear a vagina referred to as a cleft ever again, I will break things

Definitely a cool book

The first book follows Quin, the Fixer and Aven. It’s told with dual POV and an epilogue with a glimpse into the future.

Aven is in need of a Fixer and was initially turned away from the company that Quin works with. Quin comes back into town and hears of Aven’s issues and goes to see her. From there, you’ll have to read the book.
The story is well written with only 1 error that I found but it was nothing that messed up the story. The additional characters were definitely fleshed out and look to have their own stories. This was a slow burn instalove story but it was worth the slow burn. Enjoy!

I can't put my finger on what was missing, but this was an okay read for me. Beginning was good and intense. I could feel Aven's desperation. Then it fell off the rest of the book.

The following books in a series usually improve in my experience.

Re-Read

Yes, we get the series!!!!!! Next up will be The Ghost aka Gunner and I just read what the story will be about and I can't freaking wait!!!!!

I'm so in love with all those characters! Please let Smith have the book after Gunner!

There is something about a book when you see a lot of side characters and you want each and everyone of them to get their own books. So please let this be a series, because I seriously need a book for Kai, Gunner, well for everyone of them - even Fenway!
