the edition I read is just about the ugliest graphic design I've ever seen

idk what to say about this one. It didn't do anything for me. I should've known it would be so incredibly mid and lack luster.

I usually love her writing, but to me King fell really flat here in writing an extremely smart woman into a relationship with a racist disgusting buffoon. not sure why she thought we would believe this. also, reads like it’s written in 2020 but is actually in the 1930s???

Vividly drawn, interesting characters who vibrate with life. Engaging story-line not just about the study of unknown tribes through an anthropologist's eyes, but about discovering the point of living, the meaning of love, ritual, work, pleasure, and the different methods that humans utilize to achieve these milestones within their cultures. Thought-provoking on many levels, and surely an excellent book for book club discussions. Recommended for those who enjoy thoughtful fiction/historical fiction.
