Delightful in all ways: magic system, characters, the development and unfolding of their relationship.

I quite enjoyed The Botanist’s Apprentice by Arden Powell!  It was a short little story, but had a lot packed into it.

I liked the idea of the magical plants and enjoyed how the plants played a fairly key role in the relationship of Lord-Harding and Eli. 😉

I had been seeing these books popping up on my feed and on Goodreads, but completely didn’t realize that Powell is a local author to me!  So, that gave me the extra push I needed to give them a try and I wasn’t disappointed.  Looking forward to reading more books in this series and by Arden Powell.

I really enjoyed this one! The writing is nice, and I loved the sticky Southern summer atmosphere. I think the development of the characters' relationship felt a little rushed due to time jumps, and I would probably enjoy reading a longer work by Powell even more than I enjoyed this one. However, this book does include perhaps my favorite line I've ever read (re: getting eaten by man-eating plants). Highly recommend picking this one up if you want something comforting and fun.
