A very generous 1.5 star.

I disliked a lot of things about this book:

-Robert as a whole, I really don't care how many nice things he can say because he was very agressive and controlling, even demanding - I get that he was unpatient but that behaviour is something that I particualy hate. And acted a lot of times like a spoiled manchild.

-Veronica was stupid (that's it, why are you with a man like this? I truly can't understand

-3 rape attempt? ? ? why

-So many boring and repetative conversation - or maybe I just couldn't wait for it to end because I hate to put a book down even if its shitty

-The side characters were more interesting than these two and they were 98% of the book

-I really disliked the way Robert acted with Victoria when they met after 7 years - he was a mad man who said that he loved her however wanted to cause her pain

My first book by Julia Quinn and I know it's one of her early book so I won't say that I am closing up before her other novels. It was just dissapointing because the idea of this book was something that I enjoy (separated lovers finding their way back to each other after many years type of things).

I have the second part of the series, the sister's story and I am planning on reading that because the sister (can't remember her name and I just finished the book) was one of the most likeable character even though she had little part in here.

Review - Julia Quinn is a fantastic author and she writes with an interesting style. Although some of her scenes do resemble those in Mills and Boons books, she has an individual style which is very engaging to read. I have read every single one of her books and there is not one that I don't like. This isn't my favourite, however, as I prefer the Splendid trilogy and the Bridgerton series. I love the storyline of this book, like a classic love story with a difference. And I love reading about Regency England, where courtships were conventional and not so personal as they are today. I would recommend Julia Quinn to everyone! I loved the idea of a foiled engagement, and the intervention of Victoria's family either to stop her happy ending, or to assist it. Robert was annoying in that he believed the worst, but he grew on me.

Genre? - Historical Fiction / Romance

Characters? - Robert Kemble / Victoria Lyndon / Eleanor Lyndon

Setting? - London (England)

Series? - Lyndon #1

Recommend? - Yes

Rating - 18/20

I guess the lesson here is that even assholes fall in love. He really reminded me of that dude from You. Hes so creepy and dramatic. He gave not one damn about her reputation during this entire thing and he actually had the nerve to ask the question “am i mad?” yes dude. youre the craziest. and not in the good way.

I'm on a binge-reading session with Julia Quinn's books. Her Splendid series were just okay (the three books were practically the same), but this author feels like junkfood. It's not particularly healthy, but it's hard to stop!

I was pleasantly surprised with this book, though. It had some surprises and I laughed a lot. Although it still has a lot of the same elements from her previous books (a rakish hero, an "innocent" heroine, the hero being pissed off that the heroine keeps putting herself in danger, etc.), there were enough twists and new stuff to make me rate this 3.5 stars instead of the usual 2.5 that I give Quinn.

My favorite part
Spoiler was after their swim in the ocean during freezing weather, and the first time Victoria saw Robert, I just laughed so hard. It was SO different from what I expected as their first naked encounter. There were lots of other stuff that made me laugh, but this takes the cake.

I usually enjoy Julia Quinns novels but this one was far to reliant on sexual assault as a plot point and the love interest was even more domineering than usual.
