It’s not bad, the plot was so obvious but i liked the atmosphere of the story It self without the mystery, kinda reminded me of “we have always lived in the castle”.

I listened to this the first time in 2020 and gave it 3 stars. Recently I decided to give it another go and I was happy I did. If I hadn't known this was written by Christy I wouldn't have guessed it but as I knew it I could see settle similarities with her books under Mary Westmacott and her crime novels under her own name. The story was oddly compelling, can't really put a finger on why I enjoyed it more this time around.

I don’t quite know how to process this book. I will literally just finish it. I have mixed feelings on the ending. I have 1 million problems the representation of disabled people and chronically ill people in this book, but I’ve got to remember it was public in 1956  there, is rampant sexism in this book, which is weird, considering it was written by a woman, I have clarify, but it mainly feels sexist because  the mc does not challenge any of the male characters when they say something ridiculous about woman groups might be the point . I am an atheist, so I don’t particularly connect with one of the main themes of the book but it didn’t bother me too much. I don’t know if I would recommend this book but there we go. I’m conflicted.
