This book came home as part of My daughters "Raising a Reader" program.

My children were less than enthralled with this one. I found it quite interesting and educational. It teaches the numbers 1-10 in the Swahili language. I would have liked to have read it a couple more times while it was home with us. It tells you some fantastic information about life in Africa in the Swahili speaking territories. I suppose that just appeals to me more than to a preschooler and kindergartener.

The illustrations only very weakly corresponds to the text. Somehow the editors messed up what should have been a very straightforward book, in part by the inclusion of an overly-long, self-indulgent introduction.

Reading this book made me feel so smart and worldly as a kid.

Yet another item on my bookshelf which I purchased to read to my first child in the 80's. Still in excellent condition.

The intended purpose of this book is to help children learn to count in Swahili. It gives the name of the number and how to say it, but the weird thing is that the artwork simply is a picture about life in Africa and doesn't have anything to do with the number. 1 is fish in the Nile. That is not very relatable.

The artwork is nice. It’s beautiful pencil drawings. This is a beginning book that isn't a story. It is a learning tool to help educate about Africa.

Neither kid was all that into this. It was too simple for the niece and the nephew was having a bad night anyway. He was in a mood. (He wanted to keep playing a video game and couldn’t not be upset about having to stop.) The niece gave this 2 stars and the nephew gave this 1 star. He was more upset than anything.
