The book is poorly written (too much detail for irrelevant things, crucial plot information glossed over, often little coherence in the sequence of events or conversation, seemingly simple but very cryptic, ...) and once the fantasy plot was introduced I decided I’m not interested in reading a story that is steeped in racist/colonial tropes.
