This is one of the first books I finished this year, and I'm a bit sad that I didn't feel too strongly about the plot or characters. Some of the scenes dragged and some felt a bit out of place and sudden, i.e
Halfway through the book, Will wakes up, James greets him and then initiates a super sensual scene where they explore the depth of each others magic reserves (representative of sex,) -_-
but I honestly didn't take this or other scenes like it too seriously.
I will say, the ending climax was satisfying seeing the payoff after the buildup of the last book and this one, but it felt a bit rushed, and there wasn't really a lot of time to sit with the gravity of the situation that the characters were now in, and it ended almost comically i.e
James picking up Will and literally bursting a hole in the mountain and flying away. I'm sorry that was wild, I laughed out loud reading that.
I also didn't anticipate what happened in the last few pages,
the scene in the forest where they are making out and undressing each other right after leaving all their friends behind, it felt a bit forced. But the reveal of the collar's control over James was really interesting to me, and I'm curious to see if it can be developed further to cause the viewer to question Jame's real feelings towards Will versus the feelings he feels towards the Dark King, and those imposed on him by the collar,
so for the sake of completion and seeing how the the huge cliffhanger at the end will be resolved, I'll try to read the 3rd book whenever it's released :)

The most painful, tragic love story. Everything hurts.
