This beautifully-printed hardback edition of the two novels was a pleasure to read. It has occasional black-and-white charcoal illustrations, as well as a foreword and afterword that discuss Arthur Conan Doyle's writing career and impact.

Excellent to read the classic and compare it with my perceptions of the characters - both the old school PBS version my father was obsessed with and the newer modern BBC spectacular series. Loved the effect of the time period on sleuthing - previous mystery reads were primarily modern day settings (The Name of the Rose nonwithstanding). Lovely to see writing stand the test of time.

Glad I read it since I love the show Sherlock. I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed it as much as I did prior to seeing the BBC production.

It has been so long since I have read any Sherlock Holmes (and none of the novels at that) but this has got to be my favourite so far. So charming and wholesome, and such a thrilling case, I'm so glad I'm starting Halloween with this.
