Everyone shut the FUCK UP this was so fucking good. It’s a whole fucking book with the same energy as ‘How You Get the Girl’ by Taylor swift and Heartstopper but it’s about LESBIANS. Molly and Alex, two lesbians who are heavily based off of the wonderful married authors of this book and their love story (so fucking cute oh my god kill me) are very fascinating characters and do make an adorable couple, especially what with the slow burn and gradual pining that begins to develop over halfway through the book. Like them watching Wynonna Earp together, the dressing room scene, the roller skating date, the scenes in the library and at Molly’s dorm are so fucking cute. Also the fucking character development. These two make each other so much better independent from each other whilst loving each other on the way. Molly grows out of her comfort zone and faces her insecurities and anxieties about herself and how she thinks she is perceived by others, and Alex learns how to love others properly and emotionally and being vulnerable with them and herself about her feeling human emotions and not bottling them up as much. Also a plus: no coming out scenes! They both have major mommy issues though. The scene where Molly’s mum buys Alex clothes and makes her tear up fucking broke me! Also the pop culture references were lowkey tolerable only because of the Wynonna Earp references. Spot on dude. Jim is also lowkey an icon when he stood up for Alex when she was getting harassed? Go Jim!

A lesbian book written by a married couple? Sign me up for that.

I really can't believe how much I loved this book.

On one side we have Alex, who is a confident girl but has never been able to maintain a committed relationship.  Then we have Molly, a socially anxious teenager who has never had the courage to talk to the girl she likes.

I liked the contrast between the two characters. I loved that both personalities complemented each other; Alex motivating Molly to come out of her shell and take risks, and Molly pushing Alex to be honest and express her emotions.

Reading how these two beautiful characters slowly fell in love was absolutely everything. It was from a I-don't-love-you-so-much to friends to lovers, and I was fascinated by every single one of their scenes together. The way they open up to each other and feel so safe and comfortable around each other made me so happy.

She Gets the Girl was a fun yet emotional read that I wasn't expecting at all.

I loved having two POVs; the authors complement each other perfectly. The fact that it's a collaboratively written book and is so beautiful shows the effort on both sides to add their unique touch. And gosh, I recognize that so much.

I can't help but stress how good this book is. I loved the writing style. The chemistry between Molly and Alex was superb, and I still think the fact that the book was written by a married couple in real life made it even more romantic. The slow burn kept me itching for more and I would have loved to see more of them as a couple.

One of the elements I enjoyed reading about was the relationship and the impact the mother figures have on the characters. Seeing such different dynamics was quite enriching. Alex's mother struggles with alcoholism, and Molly's mother has a difficult relationship with her identity as a Korean-American adopted by white parents that she passes on to her. That speaking of, I felt a lot of affection with Molly's mom. I will be starting college in two months, and moving to a new city in one. I am extremely anxious being my first time away from home and outside of my family circle. Seeing the way her mom treated her reminded me of my mom. My mom already worrying about what I will eat, the friendships I will make, how I will survive on my own. I honestly cried watching their relationship.

Overall, it was a pretty beautiful book and I enjoyed every second of it. Highly recommended to those who love sweet lesbian teen romances, with a bit of a slow burn, and that take place in college.

space 1 for quote (not sure if i'm allowed to quote it until it's actually published lol can you tell i haven't done this before? i'll add these in in april, though you bet i'll probably forget)

first off, i just want to say thank you so much to rachael for sending me this arc to the uk all the way from america after i won her giveaway. this book is amazing and thank you again! i literally read this in one sitting, and although i've never read anything by this author and alyson derrick before, the writing is literally addicting and so relatable, hence why i couldn't put it down, and read it in less than a day (yes, i had to stop myself from staying up all night.) also, this cover is beautiful and i'm honestly in love with how it looks. dare i say it's probably one of the best covers of 2022, and it's only february.

book summary
molly parker has had a crush on cora myers since ninth grade, but has never actually taken the chance to speak to her, let alone get to know her. alex blackwood has trouble keeping relationships, flirting on the side and never really staying faithful to anyone. a bad ending to her current relationship sends her to pittsburgh, ending up in the same college as molly and cora. when alex finds out about molly's long-standing crush on cora, she realises she can help molly get the girl, with her effortless charm and five-step plan, whilst proving to her ex back home that she can be the considerate and loyal girlfriend that she struggles to be. however, both of them don't plan on falling for each other. that wasn't part of the plan, right?

this is literally everything i wanted in a rom-com, with a dash of vulnerability that makes it all seem a little bit more real. i found myself not even getting bored with what was happening. everything flowed so nicely and the characters were so relatable and it was funny without it being awkward and cringey. i can't choose between alex or molly to be honest, either. molly's anxiety felt so real and her relationship with her mum actually resembled a little bit close to mine. alex was cocky and confident and it genuinely felt like the authors reached into my head without even knowing me and plucked out someone who i would definitely end up getting a crush on. this book was everything i expected and a little more. it simultaneously made me laugh, smile, cry and close it from secondhand embarrassment and i loved every second of it!
