The first half of the book was alright. There was backstory for Rosalie and Jasper and the legends for the werewolves.

I hated the second half. I hate Bella, she’s inconsistent and does feel genuine. I thought I like Charlie, but
when his own daughter got sexually assaulted, he congratulated Jacob for doing it. He’s an awful parent. And the more the book goes on, the more incompetent he becomes.
Jacob is by far the worst. Need I explain?
Assaulting Bella and making jokes about it? The manipulation attempt of telling her he was going to intentionally get himself killed if she didn’t choose him. I don’t care the outcome or the goal, it’s not okay to manipulate someone into kissing you, or forcibly kiss someone while they’re literally fighting you off.
Carlisle is still the only redeemable character, and there wasn’t much of him here.

There was finally an explanation for why Alice’s and Jasper’s powers work on Bella but nobody else’s, it’s not convincing. I don’t think the distinction is clear enough for it to be meaningful.
Alice’s power must have a mental component, otherwise the decision making wouldn’t matter. Jasper’s power works on the emotions only because it has physical effects? There are physical-mental feedback for emotions. But that doesn’t feel much different than how Jane’s power works, other than where it starts. Maybe that’s it. I don’t know, but I’m disappointed in the explanation.

erm. this book was um. probably my least favourite in the series bye
can i also talk my shit and say FUCK JACOB BLACK!!!!!!!!
im so sorry i cannot understand team jacob fans. bro
assaults bella once & guilt trips her into kissing him
. he can kiss my ass. fuck jacob black. he was so incredibly insufferable for 99% of this book that i groaned every time he appeared. and DONT GET ME STARTED ON BELLA AND JACOB!!!!
bella u need to get ur shit together.
stop thinking u love jacob because to me its so fucking clear she doesn't love him shes just incessantly needy.

anyways um that's honestly my biggest gripe with this book.
that and you can smell the mormonism in this book unlike any other. like seriously the
no sex before marriage cockblock
occurring TWICE is so fucking funny it has me rolling.
anyways im also lowkey getting sick of how fucking needy bella is. GIRL GET SOME SELF CONFIDENCE JESUS CHRIST YOU CAN EXIST AWAY FROM YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH MEN!!!
ummm now what did i like? its a twilight book duh. automatic win. also i enjoyed the edward x jacob solidarity. i also LOVED the backstory dumps from rosalie and jasper <3 my loves they both deserved better when they were humans.
anyways im looking forward to the cgi baby nessie.

edit 5/2/2024: don't get me fucking started on imprinting. i forgot to add this but on god
one of the wolfies imprinting on a fucking child
was my last straw

Personally, I think this is the most problematic book so far (of my reread).

It is so interesting to see what I think about a series that I loved as a teen and have reread a couple of times... even though that was years ago.

I remember really enjoying the action bits and how the vampires and werewolves finally meet up to solve the book's problem. However, that is such a small part of this book.

Instead, it tries to focus on the romance. Edward is very controlling and made me super uncomfortable, especially in the beginning when he's trying to keep Bella from even stepping foot in La Push. And Jacob can't take no for an answer where he literally forces himself (a kiss, but still) on Bella. This is the worst example of a love triangle, and probably why so many of us grew to hate even the idea of them in books.

I loved Eclipse, it’s honestly such a good book and no one can change my mind. I do think it’s well-written, I love the characters (apart from Jacob in this book, he made me go nuts haha) and it had a lot of plot twists. Watching the movie right after finishing the book, is honestly the best thing in the world and the casting is sooo good please. Also, still don’t understand this whole hate thing from the past against Kristen Stewart. Obviously this isn’t regular acting but she represents Bella perfectly in the way she choose to act.
