I’m a sucker for a time travel story and for the most part this is an enjoyable read. Nothing fantastic but not bad either.

Excellent time travel story, written by a talented writer. Fast paced action. One small time-travel mistake in the story.

Not quite best of the best, but solid and worth reading.

Pretty good and I think I'll get the next book to read but overall it wasn't over the top blow your mind amazing. Great as a late night sci-fi read if you're taking a break from bigger stuff.

Good book to kill some time.

I am not saying it is bad or good book. It is different and straightforward book. I would still go for second book of series.

Bam! Another one down for my project TBR annihilation/MacHalo July clean out. That makes for a whopping TWO books so far. Sheesh. I really need to pick up the pace a little bit but games keep calling my name...

I digress.

Now about this story. I wanted to love it. It thought the concept was a pretty cool one. Go back in time to salvage materials and tech needed in the future. Basically they are sanctioned time travel pirates, only they loot from those already doomed and marked for death or destruction.

Only why in the world do they have to go back in time for tech? Shouldn't the future bring all it's own fancy new gadgets and gizmos?

Short answer is no.

Earth has been on a downward spiral after what is basically a virus of the planet itself has spread past any containment point. The world is tainted and slowly wasting away. Whole cities have fallen and the planet now exists as diseased wasteland. Enter James. He is just another time travel looter, that is until he decides to commit the time traveler's cardinal sin: bring a person from the past into the future. Now his organization is on the hunt for him and the woman he brought back, Elise, who consequently may be the key to saving the planet.

I think a lot of the ideas had merit. Reading the blurb and thinking back on the story I really feel like I should have enjoyed it more, but I only ever had lukewarm feelings for the story and characters. I think some of the time travel issues didn't make sense. Why not go back and rescue scientists or obtain the equipment that could save humanity? How could that be any worse than letting the world die? I just didn't by some of the logic and explanations associated with that. I also didn't really connect with any of the characters. Maybe Grace? But Elise and James always felt distanced and distracted to me.

I'm an emotion based reader. I want to feel the story and the characters, but that was lacking here for me. 3 stars because it really was decent writing. I just didn't get out of it what I wanted. What can I say? I'm selfish like that.

This book, dude. Wow.
I fell in love with all the characters. And the setting. My imagination ran wild with this future world.
Excellent concept, wonderful execution...plus that ending! Love.
Also? The acknowledgments alone are beautiful. Make sure to read those.
