the consciousness of this book is... overwhelming at times but amazing. i love things that see time all at once, bending it to find that time on earth is stupid and beautiful.

I was kind of disappointed by the ending, I felt like the ghost part ruined the vibes. I like the concept but tbh this didn’t give anything and I don’t rlly get why it’s a classic.

The play raises a lot of questions - but doesn’t offer that many answers. Some passages are incredibly dull to read (I’m sure it’s better when performed) and at times the philosophical approach to the cyclical nature of our lives is simplistic. George and Emily’s decision to marry and spend their lives together can’t just be pintpointed to one moment at which they talked after school. We can’t even be sure they would have been happily married (as is suggested they will be) for their entire lives due to Emily’s early death. Are our lives actually that cyclical if Emily and George are participating in some of the very changes in the town that the stage manager is bemoaning? Or is that just another part of the cycle that new inventions change old traditions? An important play a globalised 21st century puts some of the core assumptions of the play into question

I truly love this simple narrative. It is difficult to articulate why, but every time I read it I enjoy it a little bit more. It is timeless.
