I read this book for my degree. It's the first writings of Freud I've read. He writes in a very conversational way, and at times his point meanders, but in all I enjoy studying it. I haven't given a star rating because I'm not sure what I would rate it on - how much I enjoyed it? How much I learned? It's worth a read but I wouldn't say it's vital.

I read this just as some secondary research for my portfolio at university. I don’t really have much of a review for it, other than it was a great in depth exploration of what it meant for our civilisation to be happy, and the possibilities of love in relationships between family members and our ‘neighbours’.

His theories are... they seem self-consistent, but like a castle in the air. I wonder if they pass the litmus test of science (and utility) in making some bold predictions which can be tested (and are falsifiable). I need to carefully read this again and more of his works before I can make up my mind.
