The book is an ample sketch done by a capable author. It has potential and appeal, but even so, it does not raise to the expectations that have been given in the few pages from the beginning.

Ok, so I spied Red Riding Hood and a twisted version of Beauty and the Beast that MAY happen! The book is quick to read, full of action and the romance felt a tiny too rushed for me. BUT this has potential!

3.5 stars; i enjoyed that but I'm also really confused? i mean i also just found out this is actually just a retelling but i feel like this could've been a good start to a series or something - the start was slow and the end was pretty rushed but yeah i guess I'm mostly confused? pleasantly????

Interesting twist on this story

With that I LOVE fairytale retellings and as many as I have read/listened to it's virtually impossible for me to like them. As with this, I actually thoroughly enjoyed it. I admit it isn't my favorite retelling but it isn't the worst. It definitely left we wanting more. Like I'd need a part 2 to see what happened to Cinder and Dante when they made it to their new destination. What their children were like. Yes they seemed to like each other but almost as just a parting fancy, not I want to live happily ever after with you and only you. What happened to the Dark King and Gallant and Cinder's step family. Like I want details not the glossed over overview. But all in all, it was good story.

Cozy read.

Very, very different from the Angelfall series, but a good read all the same. I really enjoyed it, and looking forward to anything new from Susan in the future.

This story had an amazing idea. Cinderella was never one of my favorite stories, but the retelling of a Cinderella who has to fight to stay alive made it so much better. I do wish that Cinder was more developed as a character though. Yes, I got that she was a good person that wanted good things, but for someone who was given such a crappy lot in life, I feel like she should have had more personality. The author briefly mentioned that she learned to hide her defiance from her step mother, but even being in Cinder's head there wasn't much there. She was literally thrown into a hunt, taught how to fight, and threatened to be sold without much reaction other than saying she was afraid. I feel like there was a lot more there that could have been worked with. The other characters weren't developed much either. Silver had some spunk, her step sisters were bratty, but there was so much material there I felt like it was a wasted opportunity.

As for the actual world building and story telling, I loved the idea. It had to potential to be amazing. But it also felt a little flat. There was mention of different creatures, and some explanations but the author didn't bring me into a new world so much as casually mention random things that made it different. There were also some editing issues, but it wasn't enough to really make a difference. Overall, I felt like the book may have been a bit rushed and with more development, could have been amazing. But, I still liked it.

I need more, the only reason why I didn't give 5 stars it is because the book was to short

I cant believe this was written by Susan Ee after the amazing works of Angelfall!

First of all this is an easy light read, I finished it in 2 sittings. I do appreciate that its less descriptive and more dialogue and plot based.
But some descriptiveness is needed. I really wanted a new book bf and the Prince is not. He's barely a character in this.

Im not a fan of cinderella anyway but I was hoping this retelling would be good. It just wasnt.
