This was a fun little horror about social class and privilege. The artwork is great. The story is such that if you pull at a thread, it falls apart a bit, but it helps itself by not over-explaining what is happening. The character is believable and fun with villains you love to hate.

This self contained set of 5 issues is really the length of a short story, and when considered in that way I think it's pretty great. It is dramatic, gory, and campy, and offers a to-the-point critique of capitalism and classism. I enjoyed the character of Petal, and their relationship with the MC (
Spoiler  especially as it becomes sapphic
). I liked that it didn't go down the mystery route too much, with most of the goings on revealed early giving us and Joey (the MC) time to dwell and agonise over the situation before the plot resolution. It was fast at the end but I feel like we mostly just skipped a load of violence and probably splatter-gore which I'm fine with to be honest - I think the point was made at that point! Some parts were pretty dark and depressing (discussions of the lengths people will go to for good healthcare insurance), exploring the dystopia we live in, but the overall vibe I was getting by the end was pretty lighthearted. The artwork was just ok for me, distracting me from the story in places where the faces felt inconsistent.

Rep:
MC (Bisexual), SC (non-white, sapphic, with Lupus, Psoriatic Arthritis, and Fibromyalgia)
