I realized I'd missed this book in the series and had already read book #16.  I'm glad I figured that out because this one was excellent.

I love this series, the characters, and the village of Three Pines SO much. Slipping back into Three Pines is always such a comfort and joy for me.
•
While I enjoyed this one (4 ⭐️’s is still a really good book!), this one wasn’t “on the same level” as some of the past few Gamache books I’ve read. There is a lot of action early on (this is a big plus because I feel some books in the series have a slow build), but then after about three quarters of the book, it seems to just coast to the end. The flooding seemed very dire and a crucial piece to multiple storylines in the beginning, and then I felt like it was never fully wrapped up/followed through.
•
Louise Penny does explore some really interesting themes in this one in terms of case law—what constitutes boundaries with social media and how to use/process evidence found by accident during a natural disaster. The technology/social media piece was very interesting since given the times we live in, much of this is ever evolving.
•
I’m big about no spoilers, but if anyone wants to chat about the ending, I’d love to hear your thoughts/predictions. As always, if you have not yet started this series, getting lost in Three Pines would make for perfect summer reading! 🌲🌲🌲
•
PS go back and read Louise Penny’s dedication, in case you missed it. 😭🐶❤️🐾
