This is one of those books that I didn't read when the rest of the world read it...and often popped up around me...as it seems like everyone and their sister read it in middle school. In my brain, I clumped it with The Giver and other apocalyptic sci-fi stuff I avoided. I do think I felt I was missing out on something....and so finally, I have thrown it off the top "shelf" of my to read list....and yay!
This is the beautiful story of a friendship between Jesse, a kid desperate to fit in, with the new girl- Leslie. They create a magical world in the forest and spend their free time haunting the woods, helping out at Leslie's house and figuring out surviving school together.
I never really got into Terabithia, but I enjoyed their friendship.

Read if you enjoy old school YA.

While some aspects of this book have not aged well (I am of the same vintage so the same could be said for me), this story is a modern classic and should be remembered.

Solid children's book but be warned it's very fatphobic. I can see why it is a classic and this can definitely be used as a classroom novel study.

Many people are surprised that I have not read this before but I guess for some reason, I never came across it. My nose was stuck in Goosebumps, Encyclopedia Brown, and Sweet Valley Twins in elementary lol.

People have been telling me to read this story for years, and I finally got around to it. I was NOT expecting it to be so SAD. I had no idea what the plot was going to be, didn’t have any sense of what was going on in the story at all, but oh boy this was a rollercoaster. LOVED the mystical/imaginative air around Terabithia itself. The friendship between Jess and Leslie was just incredible and so WHOLESOME and real. It was short and sweet and ultimately ended like any good story should; conclusively but unexpectedly.
