I thought this trilogy was terrific. This particular book was sad, by its nature, being based on a true story. But I loved reading a series based on her point of view. Well written.

Loves it the second time too. Heart wrenching

I loved this trilogy, even though it was heartbreaking. What a sad life Josephine had. Sandra Gulland did an excellent job of immersing me in the history and lives of these people. The books were impossible to put down. This last one made me weep for Josephine.

Wow. These books were such an incredible journey, and this was an incredible conclusion. I feel like I've literally walked through Josephine's life with her, watched her grow up, and watched Hortense and Eugène grow up, and watched Josephine's love for Bonaparte bloom and inflate. I'm still reeling, these were so amazing and had such a melancholy ending (I'm glad I knew the basics of Napoleonic history before I read these, I feel like that helped with all the blows in this book).

The characters, the atmosphere, the emotions, the pacing, everything was done so amazingly and I'm so glad I've finally read these. I read them all in a marathon because I just did not want to leave this world of love and grandeur and tragedy.

I simply adored this trilogy from beginning to end. Even cried a little at the last pages. I'll miss Josephine a lot, and I'm sure I'll reread these books in the future.

This is the third of Sandra Gulland's Josephine Bonaparte trilogy. The three books could have been one giant volume as they flow seamlessly one to the next. They are painstakingly researched, elaborately detailed and thoughtfully told. These are the perfect books with which to curl up in a comfy overstuffed chair and spend some very satisfying and entertaining reading time.
