I really enjoyed the storyline of this book. There were moments where I felt like the story was sidetracked, but overall I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in the series.

I have not had a book make me laugh that much in a long time. Mademoiselle Geraldine’s Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quali-tay is an excellent diversion from the current state of the world.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. I am patiently waiting for the next book in the series to see just what Sophronia gets herself in next. Really love seeing/reading characters from The Parasol Protectorate series, as well.

I always feel I need to justify my love of silly books like this, but I am not going to anymore. These are fun escapism and I read enough that isn't to deserve this once in a while. Or... a little more often.
I love Sophronia and Dimity. Not only are they incredibly entertaining, but we get some back story on the Soulless series and Alexa Tarabotti and her England. Carriger deftly inserts and mentions people that become very important later. First to Alexa and then to Prudence. That's part of the thrill of these series. Soulless was first and was used to set up this amazing steampunk/ paranormal reality, followed by this series and then Prudence's own. They all tie in but also serve and terrific independent tales. All that's required is a bit of disbelief suspension and a spirit of fun.
I can't wait to see what Sophronia and the sooties get up to next!

In the second book of Finishing School, we get to see a little of London society, explore some new valuable devices and of course see tons of espionage and emerging relationships. The society of vampires and werewolves is flushed out a little more and we meet some of the intelligences who have gone on from the school.
Overall, I really like this series and find it fun today.
My only complaint is that I do not at all like the way the author talks about her characters skin color. I understand she is trying to represent people from tons of different groups, but there are many ways to do that without comparing black people with coal smudges. That just feels off and I don't like it.
