I just want to start by saying Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti wrote my most favourite book series ever Brutal Boys of Everlake Prep and I loved everything about it. So when I was struggling to find a book to read where the writing wasn't a piece of crap they came to mind and let me tell you I'm not disappointed in the slightest. I stopped reading mid-book 3 times over with separate series because I just could not deal with shitty writing and after reading Dark Fae I'm so pleased that there are four more books left for me to devour.

Quick blurb:

Elise has suffered the unimaginable loss of her brother and the worse part is that he was murdered and they ruled it an accidental death. So she set off to Aurora Academy to get the revenge she so helplessly craves. The only hitch is her clue, and it leads her to four gorgeously dangerous men who want her almost as much as she wants her brother's killer.

This book was really well done and thats exactly what I was looking for, the authors never come up short with the spice either even though it's a medium burn for most of them anyway.

I'm really excited to read the second book and I can just focus on the plot and character development instead of unrealistically hoping that the writing would get better in so many other book series I've read.

Overall I rate this book 3.5 stars only because it's the first book and we all know in complex world-building like this that world talks up space that later gets used for the best of scenes and such.

I highly recommend it if you're looking for a strong FMC that doesn't just fall at the feet of the MMCs and that isn't a bully romance for once (even tho I love bully romances).

I’m slowly making my way through the Zodiac World and I just finished Dark Fae today.

I love how the twisted sisters really know how to set a world that is easy to follow and easy to love. I love all the characters, I love the mysterious plot and also it leaves you wanting more of this world.

I love Elsie as a badass female lead character who stands her ground. Also I love how the four boys Ryder, Dante, Gabriel and Leon have completely different personalities. It’s also great how we get a bit of everyone’s perspective.

I initially read this yearly in the year but put aside because I was worried it was going to be the same dynamic as ZA (I’ve read up to b5 & needed a break as it’s traumatic 😂)
But I’m glad I picked it back up.
The FMC has a lot more agency & the bully aspect isn’t as bad. I have already ended up loving all the guys in there own way (I’m also a lot more open to a why choose romance after the bonds that tie series - my gateway drug 🙈)
I love that it’s a murder mystery plot line & after finishing book one I feel like I may even like this series more than ZA.
I’m looking forward to continuing it & seeing her relationships develop with all 4 kings - & find or who she ends up with! I will definitely finish this series before I got back to finish off ZA.
Spice was great (x2🌶 but expect it to get more) as usual with the twisted sisters - & i found I wasn’t as irritated with some of the language in this than I was in ZA - not sure if that’s just because I’m very accustomed to the writing style now or if they ramped up the cringy language in ZA? Either way I’m excited to continue this series

This was a fun easy read in between a couple of denser books that I’m reading at the moment. Better than the first book of zodiac in my opinion, but the writing is still a little clunky in areas (mainly dialogue for me). That said I read it in two days so it clearly wasn’t a big issue. Recommend if you want a lighter read with some spice.

After reading Zodiac Academy, finding out there are more series set in this world made me SO happy, and Dark Fae did not disappoint! A prequel series to ZA, Dark Fae follows Elise, a Vampire who's on a mission to find out who killed her brother at Aurora Academy. I loved getting to see some backstory to a fairly important ZA character, as well as appearances by other minor characters. It's sexy, it's funny, Elise is a badass, and the writers keep us constantly guessing who the murderer is with new information revealed at every turn. I'm totally hooked and heading for book 2 now!
