I enjoyed the dark humor and surprisingly serious topics in this middle grade classic, which include the absurdity of our punitive "justice" system, racism, illiteracy and houselessness.
The novel is pretty short and wraps up very quickly, leaving the reader to "fill in the holes" at the end. With a slightly higher page count some of the themes could have been explored a little more.

The book had a pretty slow pace in the beginning, but later got faster in the end. There are a lot of red lines that will connect the more you read. It’s very interesting seeing everything come together and make a story.
