I am heartily tired of these tropes by this author. New mothers, suspicious wives, mysterious behavior by husbands, wives jump to conclusions, even with evidence the wives don’t confront husbands and then oh yeah, “normal” everyday people decide to resort to murder.

I actually enjoyed this story more than I thought I would. Something about the cover art kind of turned me off. I've loved everything else I have read from this author so I gave it a go. After reading, I am still not sure why they used this image as it pertains only to an extremely small portion of the story. Overall, I enjoyed the writing and the unpredictable twists that Modglin always manages to pull off. Dropping a star because the ending felt a little rushed.

Ok- I need to know who recommended this book to me. It’s not what I typically read, but given my personal experience (although, thankfully, not nearly as dramatic or violent as Palmer’s) this book F-ed me up. I was on the edge of my seat. I cried. I panicked. I had the worst nightmares of my life. I couldn’t stop reading even though I knew it was taking a sledgehammer to my mental health— and as soon as I thought I figured it out something else happened. I can’t even say I liked it, only that it consumed me.

This is not a review of the book— it’s just… damn. Who made me read this, lmao?
