This took me so much longer than it should have. 
I love Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji, but the plot with all the political intrigue and other characters are doing very little for me. Are 20 pages of character focused content really worth reading the entire book?

It's with a very heavy heart that I'm giving it 3 stars but honestly there's so very little of Lan Wangji and I was actually reading for him to say something other than  "Mn" and one word. I liked the rest of the story but I'm a lovemaniac and I can't go without the lovey-dovey shit!!! 😭😭😭

This volume was a bit slower paced since it was mostly flashbacks for different POVs that are filling in the backstory of what happened while Wei Wuxian was gone.  I do like non-linear story telling but when the present timeline is such a brief slice in between two rather large portions of the book it felt like it was missing something.

I think this set the tone for what is to come as well and built on the foundation of the relationship with some realizations and playfulness in the shorter bits of the present timeline.
