This was better than I'd anticipated. The summary made it sound a little cheesy but it was not at all. Yay!

The heroine was interesting here. A young woman raised by a family of grifters, she is attempting to go straight with her new job marketing for a local radio station. Little does she know the nighttime djs are also creatures of the night. Good sharp tone without being over-the-top with the cutesy snark (hello MJD!). And she's tough but not over-the-top kick ass (hello JF!).

Nice mythos the author has created for her vamps in this new urban fantasy. They each are stuck in the time period in which they were turned and if faced with too much change or forced from their memories too much they'll sort of fade from life (so to speak!).

I look forward to Smith-Ready's next a little more then I did her native american inspired fantasies - which while good, were not my cuppa.

Wicked Game was fun and fast paced, Ciara is a ex con artist trying to turn over a new leaf by starting a job at a down and out radio station initially as an intern. Little does she know that these DJs are not your average DJs. She soon has to deal with the family issues, trying to keep on the straight and arrow, making the station a success, all while navigating her romance life. Ms Ready had me hooked from page one, Ciara was blunt and witty and although she felt some guilt at some points in the book because of her previous cons she was not weighted down by it, which kept the story going at a nice even pace. All the secondary characters helped make every scene special by adding their little "quirks" and bringing in the humour .
Ms Ready has truly found a hit in Ciara a not so perfect heroine which we can all relate to, messed up family and all!

I thought this would be a Sookie Stackhouse repeat but it was engaging. I just wish my marketing campaigns were as successful as Ciara's. =)

A surprising & delightful read by Jeri Smith-Ready, the 1st in a trilogy of snap-em-up paranormal romances. JSR invites us into her edgy & enjoyable rock-n-roll world complete with a play list (cue the awesome tunes). Flawed and sassy Ciara Griffin is a recovering con artist who teeters on-off her wagon, her grip made all the more precarious when she takes a job at a failing radio station whose night owl DJs really are "creatures of the night." Ciara can't resist helping this motley vampire nest stuck in their musical eras (from blues to grunge) evade a hostile take-over by a soul-sucking corporation. All they wanna do is enjoy good music with a good beverage. Grifting & biting ensue, and JSR's fresh & funny twists keep the reader engaged enough to segue into the next book BAD TO THE BONE. I look forward to sampling the new play list!

This is another in a rapidly growing list of books I’ve attempted lately that start out okay, and then fizzle. By the 3/4 mark it became abundantly clear that this book just wasn’t going to get any better - and I regretted sticking it out. There’s nothing really wrong with it: the writing’s fine, the plot’s okay, and the characters aren’t totally dull. But there’s nothing really right with it either: the turns of phrase aren’t stellar, the humour isn’t hilarious, and the action isn’t fully engaging. Since a hum-drum read isn’t exactly conducive to reading in bed after a long day, it took me much longer than usual to finish it. Definitely not a series I’ll be continuing.

I discovered Jeri Smith-Ready kind of late; her YA Shade trilogy was recommended to me, and I really enjoyed it. After that I decided to give her adult paranormal vampire series a try, and I wasn't disappointed. Wicked Game is witty, well written and very entertaining, and I was hooked from the very beginning. Ciara Griffin is such a complex character and makes for a very engaging protag. She is unpredictable in a way that keeps you on edge rather than frustrates, and you get to know her little by little as the book unfolds. The many DJ personalities are well-developed, fun and keep true to their "Life Time." Smith-Ready keeps the action moving and never allows you a chance to become bored. And I cannot say enough about the music and pop culture research that must have gone into this book. AMAZING. I found myself mesmerized by the many songs she quotes and was reaching for my iPod many times to listen to songs or add to a playlist.

DNF at 50ish percent. Premise was ridiculous and plot was just kind of plodding along.
