I feel like this book was an apology for the last one. It had everyone who was missing in, all the way through (although I absolutely could have used more Jason, I know I know I’m asking for too much).
I’m kind of sad that Anita didn’t become a wereleopard after all, because I think she would have bossed the shit out of that but also I’m happy because I think it would have scared the shit out of her too. Anita has grew into a very different person since book one, good and bad, but I think book one Anita would have been horrified if she had become one. I feel like it’s more ‘on brand’, fitting for her not to. Still, she has the aura of the leopard and I think that’s a nice mix of old and new Anita.
This book has a LOT more spice in it.

OK, so this was really the turning point of the series...I haven't read any further books, but you can just tell. The messiness of Anita's life has just exploded into full force, and this book really just opened up whole new worlds for where this is going to go. Frankly, the tension between Anita, Richard and Jean-Claude was starting to get a little old, so having new players put in there is great. Anita's finally starting to accept who she is, both with the vampires and the pack/pard (hopefully still both, it would be annoying to lose the wolves just cos Richard kind of sucks)--her growing powers are great. And Micah...is just a character in a book, I have to keep remembering that. :-) As for the ardeur, which seems to have everyone up in arms, I personally think it was a really natural way to amp up the tension. I'm not sure why so many people are complaining about it, it adds so much to the storyline and the characters. I mean, was everyone else really content to just have Nathaniel be this super young, super pretty blob? I'm glad to see him have a role to play. Can't wait for the next one!

DNF @ 95%. I know I am so close to the end but fuck that, I'm out. I don't want to know what sick things Chimera has done to justify Anita's inevitable murderous revenge rampage. I'm annoyed, because 1) I already drafted a super long review for this book, 2) this book was SO LONG.
If you read this book and if Micah and Cherry make it out UNHARMED let me know and maybe I'll finish it. If you've read this book and they DON'T make it out unharmed, please, just, say nothing 🙏🏻
I'm done with this series. ✌🏻
