I really wanted to like this book, but found the plot a bit aimless. For a bit I thought there was going to be a fun twist in relation to the game they were playing, but there was never a satisfying moment where I understood why certain events were happening beyond shock value.

Marieke Nijkamp’s Even if We Break is the story of five teens who gather together in a cabin for one final game of LARP or Live Action Role Play. They were once a close knit bunch in the beginning. However, that is not the case when the story begins. The game takes a turn for the worst when one person disappears leaving behind an ominous note and a few blood stains. The story is an easy read. Each character takes turns telling the story from their first person perspective. Fans of horror stories and slasher movies will definitely enjoy this tale. The ending leaves the story open which is probably why other reviews said that the story fell flat. Honestly, the only disappointment is waiting for the killer to come back one last time. Other than that the story is good and worth a read. I rated this tale three stars out of three.

It started off a little slow, but once it got into the mystery part of the story it really picked up. This author writes so much emotion into her characters and I love that all of her books portray so much diversity and representation. She does a wonderful job of making sure you connect with all of the characters and this one was no different.
