Loved how fast-paced this book was. Best way to describe it would be "Be gay do crimes" or " I support womens rights and wrongs".

“We fly to Hawaii on Saturday, and a few days later I’ll be dead. It will be a tragic accident. I seriously cannot wait.”

Dead End Girls is a quick joyride of a read with an opening chapter that really grabs your attention. Taking on the question of “what would you do if you were a minor whose family only thought about you when it suited their needs?”, we follow Maude and Frankie on their wild ride to escape from their oppressive families.

I really like the concept of an extremely intelligent teenage girl who’s tired of being forced into the “nice girl” role and instead becomes who SHE wants to be; even if that’s a criminal mastermind. Ok, especially if it’s a criminal mastermind.

Heard’s characters are believable; even if we don’t have people like this in our own lives, we’ve seen or encountered them. Even when some situations seem a little far fetched, it still feels believable that Maude and Frankie could find themselves in those predicaments.

This book tackles some tough topics like warped family dynamics, societal status, sexuality, gender, bullying, gaslighting, greed and assault. However none of it comes across insensitive or preachy. There are many defining moments and pivotal events that occur, and while they definitely aren’t throwaway incidents or cliches, they aren’t shoved down the reader’s proverbial throat either. For the most part things happen organically which is nice.

Heard does a great job with approaching things sensitively without a lot of unnecessary performative fanfare, which I really appreciate. This book is honest and not attempting to fill any diversity or marginalization bingo card despite some of the subject matter existing in that space.

I know a few reviewers had issues with Maude and Frankie’s relationship considering they are step-cousins, however I truly don’t see why that’s a big deal. It’s not like they were raised together or lived in the same household; honestly, they didn’t really know much about one another. Historically speaking, actual cousins and sometimes closer have been in relationships, and VC Andrews forged her entire career writing about incest so I don’t understand the pearl clutching over two people who clearly aren’t blood related. 3.5 stars

i don’t know how much suspending my belief can take. the whole plot was ridiculous

i didn’t particularly care for maude or frankie. the writing style was too juvenile for my taste.

A really interesting and intense story, however I thought the main characters seemed really messed up at times, yet it wasn't ever addressed, which pulled me out of the story.

Also, I get that Maude and Frankie weren't blood relatives, however they were step-cousins, so the romance between them felt kind of weird at times. Honestly, I wouldn't ever look at my step-cousins that way (yes I do have step-cousins, so I know what it's like a little bit)

This book was okay, it was an interesting premise but I feel it could have been executed better with more.
