Though it will take re-readings before I can begin to appreciate everything this coming of age story offers, the primal feel of a boy's first hunting experience had me thinking about humans and the earth; humans and other humans; and the nature of courage, patience, joy, fear, and sorrow from the first page.

Despite being short, I found this a hard slog. Is it the language style or the content? In any case, it's my second go at Faulkner and I reckon I'm done, his writing is clearly not for me

The Bear is the single most confusing thing I've read in my entire life. The first half is merely disorienting. The second half is a hellscape of nice writing and not one semblance of ordinary plot devices. I still don't know what happened. Read it if you wish but there's like 3 better Faulkner pieces.
