Holy shitake mushrooms. Read this! Immediately!

Isla and Kai’s story is like… insane. I was hooked. Basically 600 pages of book in a day and a half of reading. Just the story and character development was so good. Nothing was too rushed and it all was just blended really well. Intense moments of giggles and kicking my feet followed by anxiety so bad I had to put the book down before I could continue reading. Slower paced than I’ve read in a while, and yet the flow was so good it felt like it was all moving so fast. Serious props to the author!

Absolutely fantastic book. Couldn’t put it down! It was so well written - the characters were unique and developed, the storyline flowed nicely and it didn’t dance around or draw out any of the important parts of the story.

I haven’t been this quickly enthralled with a fantasy series since ACOTAR years ago and I am very excited for the next books to come out.

A must read series for everybody 10/10

Dialogue is awkward, writing is choppy and hard to read. It’s fated mates werewolves and very gendered.

What would you do if you meet your fated mate the night before the most important day of your life, the culmination of all your hard work?

For Isla, it was definitely not part of her plans as a warrior. She would rather don her fighting garbs than the crown of a Queen. So begins the defiance against Fate…

This book is a gem: from the beautiful prose to the intricate world and characters the author has built. I must praise their ingenuity to name the wolf packs after moons, and not use the usual names such as Shadow Moon. It is plot driven and I was thoroughly invested, with a twist towards the end that caught me by surprise. The pacing is just perfect with everything unraveling in due time. The romance is well balanced with the intrigue and never suffered in the backseat.

Now the characters… how can I express my love for Isla and Kai individually, as well as a couple?

Isla is a strong female lead, but not the type that seems invincible. She has moments of vulnerability and PTSD episodes after emerging from the Wilds, which is very real. I find her absolutely adorable when she tries not to eavesdrop on conversations and when she purses her lips out of habit.

And Kai… oh, Kai. What an Alpha. Never once had he tried to force Isla’s hand to choose him, to be his Queen. He respected her choice despite his own feelings. We only see him through Isla’s eyes, and mate bond or not, I doubt she really stood a chance against him. Heck, I even fell in love with him myself! Their banter and bickering, along with their sweet moments together were everything.

I simply cannot wait to meet Kaisla and their friends again in Book 2 as some questions still need to be answered.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

I devoured this. The fated mates trope has me on chokehold and this was so well written. I am amazed by the world building and the characters were to die for. I have never imagined myself reading shifter romances but here I am.
