An excellent beginning, with wonderful characters and one of the most fascinating setting in fantasy literature. Brent Weeks continues to be a powerhouse, and I'm excited to be back in the Chromeria

The casual misogyny and unnecessary bodily catalogues of the women in the story made this book hard to get through. I love the magic system and worldbuilding but I won't be continuing the series as I've been told the sexism continues throughout all of the books.

Absolutely riveting once we get past the out-spooling of how the magic system works but that goes on way too long.

The world tends towards grimdark but the characters are mostly people you can root for and the author gives us a few properly happy or poignant moments.

Hoping to like the next one even better.
