There was a LOT going on in this- a little too much. I felt like that one meme of the guy bent over with a pen pointing at the different pictures, connected through red thread on a corkboard, only instead of suspects, it’d be all the problems in the book. Having said that, I did enjoy this one a bit more than the first and I liked seeing her business branch out some more!

I am a fan of author Lynn Cahoon and enjoyed the first book in this series so I was really looking forward to reading this one. Unfortunately, this entry in the series fell flat for me. I really like the characters. Mia, Christina, Gran, Trent, and the rest of the characters are all likable. This time around, we get to meet Cindy, the daughter of Dorian, the victim in the first book who is currently sharing a body with Mr. Darcy. The paranormal aspect of this series does not overpower the plot or the mystery. Mia is settling into her new venture with her cooking classes, meal delivery, and catering when she discovers a dead body behind the school. The victim is not local so the reason for his death is not readily clear. However, Mia feels the need to held Detective Baldwin because she doesn't want the be accused. There are not many suspects and I felt like the murder took a back seat to what is going on in Mia's professional life and what is happening with Christina and Levi. While Mia does ask questions and provides Detective Baldwin with some helpful tips and clues, I never felt the build-up to a climactic reveal. The story just ended on a whimper and frankly, the killer was not a surprise.

I love this author and enjoyed the first book in the series so I will be back to read the next book in the series. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy provided to me by the publishers, Kensington, through NetGalley.

The second in the Magic Springs series brings back a host of memorable characters and a welcoming fun little town set near Boise, ID. I really enjoy the idea of Mia's Morsels and the progress she has made on the school . I really enjoy the setting and meeting the characters again. I really enjoy Lynn Cahoon's books and this one was no different. For some reason it took me a lot longer to get through this one that the others, but I'm not sure why.

In this installment, Mia's business is taking off and she and Christina are up to their ears in orders, when a dead man that Mia has never met finds him self dead in the new garden. It seems like things were start to point towards Trent as the murderer. I felt like Trent' and Mia's relationship should have been progressing, but her emotions towards him were a little flat. Gran is working on trying to free Dorian from Mr. Grey's cat body and seems to be making some progress! Dorian's daughter, an actress from CA is visiting and along with his estate, she as also inherited his book of shadows, so Gran is working with her on that.

I look forward to the next one in this series. Thank you for the ARC from NetGalley and all opinions are my own.

Thank you Kensington Books! Won this in a Goodreads giveaway and jumped right in.

While Mia Malone is updating the school more and more, a man dies behind the building and all signs point to Cindy, Dorian's daughter. Mia must find out the culprit before the wrong person is blamed for his death.

Sad that this is the first review of the year because it was just okay. Granted, I multitasked through a lot of it but it just wasn’t amazing. I do love the direction it is headed and I like the setting. Just need to get more invested in the characters.

3.5 stars.

The mystery part of the book never quite grabbed me, though the author did a good job at getting me to suspect other characters. I like Mia and that she's pretty smart, and confident in herself as a chef. Her grandmother, roommate and friend Christina, and her love interest, Trent, rounded out things nicely. I really, really appreciate that this series does not have a love triangle. The town of Magic Springs and the paranormal stuff really intrigued me, and I want to know what's going on with all of that. Overall, this was a quick and easy read, though I do wish I had been a bit more into the mystery part.
