O primeiro volume de “As Memórias de Cleopatra” é um livro interessante, no entanto, pouco coeso. A autora demora-se muito em situações banais, desenvolvendo e descrevendo ao longo de várias páginas momentos simples e aparentemente rápidos como um mergulho no rio, por exemplo, dedicando menos tempo a outros pormenores que pessoalmente a mim me interessariam mais. O livro tem picos de emoção que me fizeram querer devorá-lo e, logo de seguida, passagens altamente monótonas e cansativas.
É uma obra interessante, sobre uma personagem histórica intensa e curiosa, e que tem a particularidade de ser contado na primeira pessoa, como se de um diário se tratasse. É talvez um pouco romanceado demais, com muita “lamechice” e suspiros por César à mistura, mas acaba por valer a pena pelo conteúdo histórico que também oferece.

Amazing, Relevant, Empower, Fascinating, Accurate

In this first volume, we follow the life of the last and most famous Cleopatra from a young age until the assassination of Júlio Cesar.
This book is told in the first person from the perspective of Cleopatra as she writes her own story. The author captures the essence of Cleopatra, the strange beauty, the smart and strong woman she has, and how she could face the most fierce men as her equals. Her opinions are so strong and how she can plan things is simply marvelous.
We get to see the betrayal of Cleopatra's older sisters, while their father is in Rome and how they plan to rule the kingdom, how Cleopatra later has to fight her own brother and sister to become the ruler of Egypt. How she goes to Rome to avoid the invasion and continue to rule her country as an independent.
We learn more about Egyptian older traditions, how trade relationships were at the time, what was it like to be apart of the Ptolemaic royal family, and how the Romans were the destroyers of cities.
I loved to see all the places, the descriptions of Alexandria, Thebes, Rome, and other cities and monuments were so joyful to read.
There is a lot to talk about this book, from wars to love, to betrayal and alliances everything comes with the right pace with enough information from the place, and time.
I am really excited to finish the story of Cleopatra's life!

Este livro relata a infância e o primeiro amor daquela que foi e ainda é uma das figuras históricas conhecidas pelos seus grandes feitos. A autora narra os acontecimentos de forma detalhada e conhecedora ainda que com alguns momentos monótonos sendo necessário forçar a leitura para os ultrapassar.
Os meus conhecimentos sobre Cleópatra eram muito básicos mas penso que Margaret George fez um excelente trabalho na sua pesquisa histórica fornecendo detalhes que fazem Cleópatra mais humana e 'relatable'.
