Very tropy YA, complete with a dark lord love triangle,  but I was intrigued by the choice of setting and the worldbuilding held my attention.

I don't know what made me want to retry this series. Probably because it's getting a Netflix adaptation; the world is obsessed; there are spin-offs; and maybe because I found books two and three dirt cheap.

Well now I am very glad I did. I honestly enjoyed it! It's up there with City of Brass / Kingdom of Copper as 'series with a girl who wants to kick the shit out of the villain'.

I rate it down a star because I feel that with the different type of Grisha the others felt pretty worthless or just didn't result to anything and most of the focus was on Alina and the Darkling's powers.

I see this author recommended quote a lot, and so after I finally watched the show, I (also finally) read the book.

Meh.

I gave it 5⭐️ at first for it reads really easily and it sufficienty enjoyable. But then I decided to update it to 3, because already the next day I kind of didn't care about it anymore?!

This is where I rant now.
It might just be the fact that I really ship the bad guy with the main girl or, wait no, I actually don't care for the girl all that much either and just want to see more of the bad guy

Almost 4 stars, but not quite. I REALLY enjoyed the concept and plot of this book, but the characters didn't particularly draw me in (except the Darkling and Genya)
