I really liked her writing style and the story was fascinating. Endings are really hard to write. I was super put off by the constant "Twilight" references and obvious fan-dom. It was a weird thing to trip over in a novel. I would think a novelist would know that those books are poor, at best.

Also, not the book's fault, the voice actor that read the audio book made some very strange and distracting decisions regarding "sounding southern."

Not normally one for thrillers but I LOVED this and I love the questions it makes you ask about morality and justice. I also love this note from the author: “…I wanted to make the case that popular media aimed at young women (like Twilight), which is so routinely dismissed and denigrated, actually falls into the canon of antihero/moral outlaw narratives, which are typically afforded more prestige.”

”What is it about us teenage girls that claws so deeply under people’s skin? We’re reviled and desired in equal measure; cringed at, laughed at, then lunged at. The sheer effort people like my father and my teachers have spent trying to control us. So many dress codes and rigid rules and unspoken ones we have taken on the mantel of policing ourselves, looking in the mirror and wincing at our reflections, drawing our own blood first, before others can. I think my father wants me to erase myself the way everyone who opposed him erased themselves while he was rising to power. Perhaps he’s doing the same thing to me he did with the occult. Perhaps deep down, like with the swamp spiritualism, he recognizes I could be a threat and must be taken off the map.”

Lots of twists and turns, some predictable, some not. Ending is potentially unsatisfying
