Princess in Pink picks up four months after the close of Princess in Waiting, it is the eve before Mia's 15th birthday and all she wants is for Michael to ask her to his senior prom, but he hasn't yet. Then on her birthday she has dinner with her family plus MIchael, which descends into chaos when Grandmere's dog, Rommel, escapes from her bag and runs around the restuarant, trips a busboy who's tray of leftover soup spills all over Grandmere and he is unfairly fired. Enter Lilly, who decideds that her latest cause is to fight for the plight of the busboys of New York. Then on the day of Mia's birthday party, her close friend Tina decides to organize a game of Seven Minutes in Heaven so that Mia can ask Michael about whether or not they are going to the prom. She is devastated when Michael tells her that he thinks the prom is lame. Her party is broken up when her stepdad finds Lilly in the coat closet with the busboy who had previously gotten fired, much to Mia's chagrin and to the heartbreak of Lilly's boyfriend, Boris.
And to make matters worse, all the waiters, busboys and htel staff decide to go on strike, which means that not only does Mia have an unwelcome houseguest - Grandmere - but the prom is cancelled and everyone at Albert Einstein High hates Mia! But then Grandmere swoops in to save the day - I mean, er, prom - and Mia gets Michael's band as the live music, which means she gets to go to prom in the gorgeous pink dress that Grandmere got her. But will everythin end well for Mia?
Princess in Pink was an okay read, however I found most of the characters to be just awful! First, Mia is super self-absorbed and all she cares about is the prom. I think I speak from experience when I say that prom is not that big of a deal!
The there is Lilly who is already mostly a jerk, but it especially comes out in this installment of the series, she cheats on her boyfriend and shows no shame until it's too late. When Mia confronts her, she gets defensive and calls her names. Also, she keeps ditching school for her supposed calling of being a hero for the working class.
Michael is just kind of super passive and at times kind of rude - very different from the Michael readers have come to love over the last few novels, but he does have his redeeming moments throughout the book.
Grandmere is awful and refuses to admit her wrongdoing in everything that happens - but she did save the prom!
I also enjoyed the quote, which I'm pretty sure is something Grandmere shared with Mia, or maybe it was Tina, I can't remember, but it was still one I really liked and thought was funny, "Men are like woodland creatures. You have to lure them to you with tiny breadcrumbs and soft words of encouragement. You cannot simply whip out a rock and conk them over the head with it" (33).
Overall, we just see Mia obsess over the prom, although there is a surprise ending that ends to book off on a high note. This was definitely not my favorite installment in the series, but we finally say goodbye to Mia as a freshman. 3/5 Stars.

Mia was pretty annoying in this book. This series is still excellent, though.

Another fun book! This one was all about prom and Mia finally having her little brother! Like I mentioned in the last book, Mia is at that kind of annoying, whiny stage I don't like, but I know that changes soon. The strike part was pretty interesting and the whole part with Lilly. (who isn't the best friend I'd say in the world... But you can't always choose your best friends I guess.)

Another easy read, one that doesn't take long to get through because of the journal style entries.
Mia is a typical teenage girl with her first serious boyfriend and wondering if anything will end their relationship. She is also forever wondering if something that she does or anyone else will do to end their relationship. Also her dreaded battle with another class of the dreaded Algebra.
All in all a good book with themes of what every girl goes through in her mind when it comes to boys and life with or without the "Love of her life".
