This was my first book by Nesbø at the recommendation of a friend. I got to admit that it's size was scary and the hardcover edition looks even more intimidating. I put it off for quite a while even after I got it to read on Kindle. The story is a slow cooker, but what the author said in 549 pages could have been said in 300-350 at most. Some chapters were fillers, just random thoughts of the main character. I suppose it was to increase the suspense or to distract the reader with other details while in the background big things are happening. Like an avalanche you know it's possible to happen, but you do not expect it to come at all. I'm giving it 3 stars just because of its length and some bits & bobs that were left uncovered, and the ending. But story has a purpose just the clothes are too big, the characters development is more like uncovering rather than growing up & out. If you like slow cooker books, this is your jam then.

I was really excited to read Nesbø, since I had heard nothing but good things about his books. Unfortunately, at least this specific specimen, was a flop.

The plot is fairly predictable, seemingly dark and nasty just for the sake of being shocking, and kind of flat. I could tell that this was a book written by a man, for men.
