I wanted to read this book because it’s the only one I've not read in the series beside Chains of Thorns which I am waiting for the paperback to be released. I liked this but obviously there was no storyline and considering I have been reading about this world since I was fifteen, I knew most of the information.

The book is a training manual for all the new shadowhunters. Since the thirteenth century, the Codex has been the Shadowhunter’s best friend. This book covers it all. The history and the laws of their world, how to identify, interact with and if necessary, kill the world’s colour denizens. They answer questions such as what end of the stele should you write with and what is a Pyxis? This book has got the geography, history, magic and zoology of this world all in one book.

This book is basically an encyclopaedia on what you need to know about the Shadow world. It is necessary if you are new to the series because there is a lot of creatures and a lot of storylines. So this has all the information in besides what the storylines are. The comments and art made by Jace, Clary and Simon were the only thing that kept me interested and made me want to finish it.

This is an information overload and I literally read this because it’s just one of the final books I haven’t read, and I am now up to date on Cassandra Clare’s projects. I found myself skimming most of the book because we already knew about it. When Jace or Clary said I'm not reading it, I didn’t feel the need to.

It’s a good collector's item and good for any Shadowhunters fan.
