Al Capone Does My Homework by Gennifer Choldenko

Visiting Alcatraz is always fun; this time Moose is dealing with a fire in his home, losing a bottlecap tossing contest and trying to figure out why Piper is giving away such nice gifts to people on the island. Natalie plays an increased role, and Moose is figuring out ways to deal with her "special" nature.

My biggest complaint? Not enough Capone. He does provide The Big Clue (well, A Big Clue to one of the mysteries) but is mostly off-stage. And please, next time can he be the librarian?

Great addition to the series.

I heard that this was going to be the last Al Capone book and if that is true then I am truly sad because I am going to miss Moose and the gang. However, for fans of the series (and I definitely count myself as one of the biggest fans), this was another fantastic read. I couldn't put it down.

I don’t know if I like this one as much as the last two but I certainly like Moose and Natalie’s dad as assistant warden.

I enjoyed this third book in the series much more than the second. It is grittier, and there is a lot more at stake. Moose's father has just been promoted to Assistant Warden after the events in book two. At his first day on the job, the family apartment is set on fire, and Moose's autistic sister Natalie is immediately blamed. Moose, Jimmy, Annie, Theresa, and even Piper band together to find out what really happened. They uncover a lot of secrets along the way. I recommended reading the first two, so you will better understand the social dynamics of the kids growing up on Alcatraz Island. Grades 5-8.

This third installation in the Al Capone series definitely does not disappoint. When Moose's apartment is burned down, Moose is wracked with guilt. He was babysitting his sister Natalie that night and he fell asleep. Could Natalie have burned the house down? Moose is sure Natalie is innocent, but to prove it he must find out who did start the fire. There's just enough of a mystery story combined with interesting historical details and the characters we've come to know and love. Recommended for fans of the first two books!

The ending seemed a baby bit forced.
