3 stars for writing and story. 4 stars for teaching me facts about American history I never knew!
By the end of the book, my family was tired of my starting dinner converstation with, "Did you know....Benjamin Franklin...."

I enjoyed this book, but was looking for more in the ending.

Felt transported to the streets of colonial Philadelphia. Against the backdrop of momentous events & orbiting the larger than life Benjamin Franklin, Cabot creates a compelling story. One of the best endings I've read in awhile.

I was interested in this book as historical fiction, and while I did not find myself as exceptionally involved in it as I would be in a truly great historical novel, I must say, not bad. The historical details seemed accurate and relevent, and I was intrigued by the story itself, as I had never heard of the wildly differing political views of William Franklin. Now, I am fully aware that this was a fictionalized account of what MIGHT have been the case with Benjamin Franklin's bastard, however, the author's note at the end clarified that such a child did exist, and though the child's mother was never known, it is well-known that William Franklin was a stout Loyalist. All in all an interesting read. And I learned something new about history today. Win, win.

Very good historical fiction. Kept my interest from the very first page and I could not put it down. At the end of the book the author explains the details of his research and how mnuch of the book was fact and how much was fiction. Also goes into detail about the final years of Benjamin Franklin after the book finishes.
