Important, insightful, broad scoped, it was shocking to see parallels between the US system and that of our northern neighbors. The historical backdrop has all but been hushed to all that I had ever been told about it. Most of the injustices I had associated in Canada came from their treatment of first nations peoples. Those these are not separate entities in their own way as far as the systemic issues go. The other area of high interest that was close but also very of its own was seeing how much of a factor immigration overlapped. I had no clue how the dispora had statistically spread into the north or how severe that angle is folded into the mix.
Yet for all the gloom, it is also a message of perseverance. Very informative and more than a little heart breaking.

This book fundamentally changed how I see Canada and the world.

This is a phenomenal, must-read book for white Canadians. Unlike my initial perception, this book isn't just about the impacts of policing on Black folks; rather, it chronicles the full history of anti-Black racism in Canada. It is horrifying and discouraging at times but incredibly necessary for those of us wishing to do better by our Black friends, family, neighbours and colleagues. Highly, highly recommend.
